History of Troy First Baptist
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” 1 Corinthians 3:9
It all started when…
Troy First Baptist Church has a long history of serving Montgomery County. In June of 1885, four Baptist ministers met at the County Courthouse in Troy to organize a Baptist church. Twenty people became charter members. This new church declared the Bible as its rule of faith and began meeting in another church’s building. In July of 1885, the church called its first pastor, Rev. T. Harrison.

On August 28, 1886, the church held its first service in its own building, a one-room wood church constructed on the corner of East Spring and South Pearl Streets in front of the graveyard.
By 1911, the Church had outgrown its first building and purchased property at the southeast corner of Liberty and Chestnut Streets, the location of the current Food King, where they built a new larger brick structure which was dedicated on Thanksgiving evening 1914.
Troy First Baptist continued to grow, and on April 14, 1957, ground was broken on the church’s present lot at the northeast corner of E. Main and Lineberry Streets for the church’s third and current building. This completed two-story brick building was dedicated on October 12, 1958. Our beautiful facilities include a sanctuary that seats more than 500 and a separate chapel seating 100 for smaller gatherings. There are classrooms for Sunday school, a nursery suite, staff offices, a kitchen and large fellowship hall. In 1991, the Church added a beautiful new youth building adjacent to the Church.
